How To Create Your GMB Profile

In this video, I’ll guide you through the entire process of creating and optimizing your GMB profile, step-by-step.

In this video, I’m going to show you how to create a Google business profile. The first thing you’re going to do is head over to Google and just Google “Google My Business.” Click on the first result, “Get Listed on Google.” You’ll want to see “Google Business Profile” up in the top left, and then you’ll want to click “Sign In.” This is where you will be putting your credentials. In this case, the client already has one location, and we’re going to add a second, but it’s going to be the exact same process if yours is brand new. Since she already has one, I’m going to click these three dots and click “Add a New Business Profile.” In this case, I’m going to need Ellie. For the business category, we’re going to do “House Cleaning Service.” If you have a physical location, even if it’s just a mailbox, then you want to go ahead and click “Yes.” If you don’t, you’ll hit “No.” Now we’ll enter our business address. Then we’ll click “Next,” and then we’ll click “No.” Click “Yes,” and then you’re going to select areas. In this case, I highly recommend you choose your business address. If you don’t have a business address, this is where you’ll put service areas. I just went ahead and added the other service areas that this client serves. I’ll click “Next.” Then you’ll want to pull in the phone number. One thing to note about the phone number is that I highly, highly recommend that you do put a phone number in. I don’t recommend that you put your personal phone number here. You can get a free phone number on Google My Business, or on Google Voice. That’s a great option, or you can pay $10 to get one that is associated with your business profile. The nice thing about that is you can pick the area code. You can pick the area code of your business. Otherwise, you might end up with something in Kentucky if your business is located in Florida, which is not the end of the world, but it is really nice to have the area code of where you’re located. That’s personally what I do for Samantha Digital. Not only does it help with SEO, it helps with conversions because potential customers prefer to get in contact with you in different ways. Some prefer calling, some prefer email, etc. I’m going to click “Next.” Then I have to verify my profile. There are a few different ways that this can work. I’m going to just do the phone number. This is going to get sent to my client, so I’m going to pause the video and text her to send it to me. I went ahead and entered the code for my client, and now I am all verified. I’m going to click “Next.” Here you’re going to go ahead and just click and add your services. General housekeeping. I generally like to include all of the defaults here. If you have specific ones you want to include, then you can do that. Now I’m going to fill in my hours. I highly recommend that you fill in yours as well. The more complete your Google My Business profile is, the better. In this case, they are open from 9 a.m. Monday to Friday to 6 p.m. I just went ahead and added those in. I went ahead and filled this out as completely as possible, providing a business description talking about the services that we offer. This is a really good way to inject relevant keywords and then talk a little bit about the business. Then I’ll click “Next.” At this very moment, I don’t have before and after photos for this business, but it is something I highly, highly recommend adding as soon as possible to improve the quality of your Google Business profile and increase conversions and calls. I definitely highly recommend that you do that. For now, I will just skip it. She already has a Google business email, so we’re going to just skip that, skip advertising, and click “Continue.” Our new business profile is all set up. A couple of other things to note, I highly recommend emailing your entire client base with a link to GitHub. You’ll just copy this link and request that your customer base write you a kind, short, and sweet to-the-point review. Additionally, you can start adding updates to your business regularly. I have an entire Instagram reel on this that really summarizes it perfectly, so I’ll link that for you as well. If you want to get inspiration for your own Google My Business profile, I highly recommend that you check out mine because I am obsessed with taking care of it. You’ll be able to look at the photos. You’ll see I have a picture of myself working at my desk, a picture of the outside of the office, my logo. Additionally, I have regular updates from my business to add depth and dimension to my Google profile. I mentioned once we launched this website. I highly recommend publishing regularly, maybe once or twice a week. This will greatly help.
